OutsideIn announces sideshows for Bilal, Andrés and more

Sydney’s OutsideIn Festival is quickly approaching, and we could not be more excited. Consistently one of, if not Sydney’s best music event for three years running, the 2015 edition will no doubt beat each and every expectation! The lineup boasts an unbelievably well-curated selection of the best names in (predominantly underground) local and international electronic and hip hop.

That said, tickets are selling fast, and not everyone will be able to get in to Manning House on September 26 :( So, luckily, the sideshow dates have started rolling out! We’ve got the details here:

Bilal

This criminally underrated, prodigiously multi-talented musician has worked with musical gods right through from the underground to the mainstream, boasting a hefty collaborative resume including J Dilla, Dre, Beyonce and Kendrick. A diverse, genre-smashing and truly unique artist, I can guarantee this will be one of the best performances you will catch all year.

Thurs Sep 24: Prince Bandroom, Melbourne
Fri Sep 25: Max Watts, Sydney

Andrés

Another name which may not be entirely familiar to you, but should be – Detroit’s Andrés is bringing the house and hip hop to Sydney and Melbourne. Also known as DJ Dez, the Slum Village DJ has released music under Moodymann’s label Mahogani, the drummer, producer and all-round legend returns to Australia again, after an acclaimed 2014 run.

Thurs Sep 24: Hugs&Kisses, Melbourne

Stormzy

Representing deep, grimy hip hop from the other side of the pond, South London’s Stormzy will be making his way to Australia for the very first time next month. Having just won “Best International Act” award at the BETs, and joined Kanye West on stage at the Brit awards, this 22-year-old trailblazer is on the brink of global domination. Already hailed as one of the best live acts out of the UK, this I could not recommend him higher.

Thurs Sep 24: Jack Rabbit Slim’s, Perth
Fri Sep 25: 524 Flinders, Melbourne

Star Slinger

This producer and DJ has built a reputation for his incredible sampling, and blending of hip hop and house to create exciting beats that have caught the attention of A$AP Rocky, Miguel and Juicy J to name a few. Wel known for his remixes of artists ranging from London Grammar to Kendrick Lamar, this will be Star Slinger’s first Australian visit since 2012.

Wed Sep 23: Jack Rabbit Slim’s, Perth
Thurs Sep 24:
Toff in Town, Melbourne
Sun Sep 27:
Transit Bar, Canberra

Here’s the full festival lineup, for which you can purchase tickets here. The main thing I’ve come to learn over my years attending OutsideIn is to have faith in the curation (for more, read my 2014 review here.) Sure, you might not recognise all the names on the bill, but don’t let that deter you. Every year, every act – whether I knew them or not – has been astounding. So go on, buy a ticket. You are in for one hell of a good time.
