LISTEN: Glass Animals drop ‘Gold Lime’

Indie/electronic band Glass Animals have released new track Gold Lime, an amalgamated double cover of the Yeah Yeah Yeah‘s Gold Lion with Erykah Badu‘s The Healer sample. The song was released to celebrate the band’s upcoming show in Central Park in New York, a free show as a part of the annual SummerStage series on 9th August.

“Because it’s such an exciting moment for us all, we decided to take a song from a New York band that we love, and then Glass Animalsify it…” the band said. “Then we thought…why do a cover of one song when you can cover two at the same time? So here it is! It’s called Gold Lime and it’s a cover of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Erykah Badu. Simultaneously.

“P.s. we know Erykah Badu is not from New York. But she’s awesome.”

The song brings two vastly different songs together, seamlessly dropping them into that trademark Glass Animals melting pot of psychedelia, trip hop, soul and electronica to create a hazy arrangement of breathy, relaxed vocals rifts. From such opposite ends of the musical spectrum, comes a unique creation of their own.

Starting originally as the one-man project of Dave Bayley, Glass Animals has evolved to become a fully-fledged band to include Bayley’s friends Drew MacFarlane, Joe Seaward and Edmund Irwin-Singer. Since releasing debut album Zaba last year, the band has gone from stride to stride, having toured the US throughout May and June.

Fingers crossed they add this to their live repertoire. Glass Animals blew us away when we caught them live earlier this year.
