My Favourite Tunes: The Districts

As Splendour In The Grass quickly approaches, so to do the perils of setting your timetable. Who you must see, who you heard was good and want to check out – it can be tough. Thankfully, we’re here, and we can help recommend acts that we know and love, and can guarantee will be totally fucking mind blowing.

One of these acts is The Districts – an American rock four piece with coolness to spare. They’re fighting the good fight in keeping the type of rock alive that makes the classics what they are. They embody rock from a bygone era, when Taylor Swift didn’t dominate the airwaves and we were all looking up to the likes of Julian Casablancas. In short, they’re rad, and they’re definitely an act you should see time and time again.

Having delivered one of the best sets of the festival at SXSW, and delivered one hell of an album earlier this year in A Flourish And A Spoil, they’re sure to be one of the best acts of the weekend at Splendour. Ahead of their trip Down Under, we managed to get the guys to let us in on their favourite tunes to cook to, clean to, sing in the shower to, and make sweet lovin’ to. Check the playlist below, and while you’re at it, check their clip below too!

My favourite track to wake up to is… The Old Revolution by Leonard Cohen
Leonard Cohen is one of my favorites, and great for your morning coffee!

The best track for cooking is… Night in Tunisia by Dizzy Gillespie
So smooth and groovin’. Before you know you’ll have spiced that meal up to near perfection.

The best track for spring cleaning is… I’ve Never Found a Girl by Al Green
Just the beat to keep your hips shaking and your wrist feather dustin’.

The ultimate road trip track is… Come to the City by The War on Drugs
The War on Drugs are awesome and from Philly. Their new album’s great but Slave Ambient is my favorite, and is a great driving soundtrack. This song especially is beautiful and hits me every time.

My favourite love song is… Little Bird by Dr. Dog
Dr. Dog is another incredible Philly band. Little Bird is a simple but really amazing love song.

The best track for sweet love makin’ is… Some Velvet Morning by Lee Hazelwood and Nancy Sinatra
There isn’t much cooler than this song. It might make for pretty weird love making though.

The track that always gets the party started is… Bills by LunchMoney Lewis
Try not to shake that butt to this song.

The best track to wind down a crowd is… Mama by LunchMoney Lewis
For real though, I don’t know much about LunchMoney Lewis but these cheesy songs are really fun to listen to.

My favourite drunken karaoke track is… Rocket Man by Elton John
In Manchester on our European tour in April, Braden and I were singing this at a gay bar and our tour mates Broncho and our bandmates joined us onstage for a full on showstopper.

My favourite song to sing in the shower is… Satellite of Love by Lou Reed
When that water’s tricklin’ down my head you can count  on me singing this song.

A song that always makes me cry is… Fast Car by Tracy Chapman
This is one of those songs that always seems like it would be funny to listen to with some friends and then you remember how heartbreaking and beautiful and incredible it is.

I love going to sleep listening to… Radio Cure by Wilco
A peaceful, sad song to listen to in the dark.

I can’t stop dancing when I hear… September by Earth, Wind & Fire
Classic. Workin’ the dance floor with this one.
