It’s Friday, the weekend is finally here, and you know you’re going to need a soundtrack. Thank the music gods above, because Melbourne producer Chiefs has just dropped one of the biggest EPs I’ve heard in recent times, and it is packed with the vibes that will make any day better.
From the lead single and title track, featuring the succulent vocals of Beayz, the hard hitting and breakneck Substance and the glitchy, bassy Shooter featuring the R&B vocals of Lara Liz.
What’s different about Chiefs is that his work isn’t just about focussing on drops or bass. In fact, you can hear his progression from just beats, to making fully-fledged songs with meaning and detail. It’s this that separates him from the pack of other producers who have figured out a formula for a banger, and will hold him in good stead as the rest fall behind. Demon is a very exciting step forward in this producer’s game, and is setting him up to be one of the ones to watch in Australia’s continued “golden age” of electronic music.
