Azealia Banks: Splendour in the Grass was a “Waste of my fucking time”

Azealia Banks made her second appearance at Splendour in the Grass this past weekend. It will almost certainly be her final appearance at the festival.

Understandably, Banks labelled Australian’s as “terrible crowds to play for…violent and belligerent.” after having a water bottle (armed missile) thrown in her general direction during a set. She had a similar experience at Listen Out in Sydney two years ago, when a barrage of beer cans (sharpened) were catapulted by the audience on to the stage (she narrowly escaped death). In all honesty though, stop throwing shit at Azealia Banks. She’s obvs not good at catching.

The artist has again gone to twitter to spit some fire at Splendour. She was deeply offended that “the artist book”, “obviously written by some divisive white person”, contained a catalogue of her controversial, beef-making tweets. It is frustrating when a compilation of your tweets (direct quotations) eventuates in a “shitty blurb” (to use her own words). But hun, les be serious, who’s providing the material.

Look, I love Azealia Banks. I agree with her when she says that minority voices are shrunken and sanitised by the media. I love the fact that she sees herself as a coloured feminist. I also respect that she has a razor-tongue and is not afraid to slash you with some truth-speak. But, she must understand that she only feeds the beast with these asinine and needlessly choleric rants against artists and whole populations. So Azealia, please don’t strangle yourself with your tongue; use it for peace not war.
