GLASTONBURY, ENGLAND - JUNE 26: Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine performs on The Pyramid Stage during the Glastonbury Festival at Worthy Farm, Pilton on June 26, 2015 in Glastonbury, England. Now its 45th year the festival is one largest music festivals in the world and this year features headline acts Florence and the Machine, Kanye West and The Who. The Festival, which Michael Eavis started in 1970 when several hundred hippies paid just £1, now attracts more than 175,000 people. (Photo by Ian Gavan/Getty Images)

Watch Florence and The Machine Cover Foo Fighters at Glastonbury

In an unfortunate turn of events involving a broken leg, Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters had to pull out of this year’s Glastonbury, leaving it up to Florence and The Machine to suddenly have to fill in the headline slot.

Although last week, Florence Welch herself admitted had she known any earlier this was going to happen, she would have descended into madness, all reports of the set confirm the band well and truly rose to the challenge, with a few extra highlights thrown in for good measure.

One such highlight was a touching tribute to the band that was originally booked in the spot, with Flo calling out to Grohl letting him know they all still loved him, before launching into a goosebump-inducing, spine tingling cover of their hit song Times Like These. Welch’s voice soars over the gob-smackingly enormous crowd, with added harps, brass section and theatrics that her Machine are so very capable of pulling off. If there was any person not convinced that Florence and The Machine were worthy of a headline slot at Glastonbury, I would highly doubt they still needed to be. With the crowd in the palm of her hand, the band put on a set proving all the unconvinced wrong and highlighting just how much they are a force to be reckoned with.

Sweet and humble as ever, Florence and The Machine have released their third album this year titled How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful and will be headed our way in just under a month for Splendour In The Grass as well as a few sideshows. You can watch the cover below if you (like me) are living Glasto through the Internet. It’s worth it just for the moment when the crowd realise what Flo is singing.
