Tom Lee-Richards “demonstrates his flare for variety” with new song

New Zealand’s Tom Lee-Richards has revealed his new single The Wearing Kind and a launch gig to accompany it. A relative unknown, Tom cites his genre as experimental, soul and folk with a slap of jazz and pop. Quite a palette, but his new single demonstrates his flare for variety.

The Wearing Kind is almost hypnotic in its style, ebbing and flowing between minimalist guitar strums and ruminating vocals. Rounded and delicate, his voice exudes potential reinforced by a deliberate and purposeful approach to his music. Unafraid to blend upbeat folk with mellow jazz and soul, the song manages somehow to marry the two seamlessly. Although he may have trouble breaking into radio airplay without a more explosive hook, there is no doubt that should he continue down this road, he will ooze into the Australian and NZ music scene rapidly.

For those in Melbourne, you can catch his single launch at Shebeen with special guests Monique Shelford, Canary and Mirando.
