New music: Kehlani, ‘The Way’ ft. Chance The Rapper

Oakland songstress Kehlani has just dropped The Way. It’s slow and sensual, dripping with sex, finding beauty in sparsity, and blending R&B with basic electronic elements in a way that reminds me of people like SZA, or a more organic Tinashe.

The track features a guest verse from Chance The Rapper (coming very quickly after last week’s collaboration with Jordan Bratton.) Not only do his recognisable and wonderful vocals add a sublime element to every track he works on, but he uses his well-known persona to support and promote artists who need that extra leg-up. It’s a great way to draw our attention to these rising stars. Admirable and useful as fuck, too.

Kehlani’s crystalline vocals are really amazing; I’m definitely spending some time today following up on her previous releases. The nostalgic R&B vibe is only added to by Chance’s verse, with his deep drawl complementing Kehlani’s melody perfectly.

A new addition to any sultry bedroom playlist, no doubt.

Here’s some more Kehlani, by the way:
