Hudson Mohawke Press 2011

Hudson Mohawke’s new song is really different. And really good.

Hudson Mohawke has dropped another song his forthcoming album Lantern. It’s really different to anything we’ve heard before, and it’s very, very good.

While recent single Very First Breath showcased a surprisingly pop-centric sound, Ryderz is a soul on crack. It’s rhythm and blues with a shit tonne of adrenaline injected into the main vein. It really reminds me of a couple of the more soulful samples tracks on Kanye’s Yeezus, which HudMo worked on, so I imagine the influence stems from those sessions.

It’s glorious. It’s fresh and unique – not only does it stand out against HudMo’s other music, but really against anything else we’re hearing at the moment. The gorgeous melody is embellished by shuffling percussion and huge synths, and the results are euphoric.

Listen right here. (excuse the occasional voice overs throughout the track, it’s a radio rip.)

Lantern comes out on June 16 through Warp Records
