Oh man, I can’t even explain how much I love Mogwai.
So, it should come as no surprise to you and that I am extemely pleased to announce that the Scottish post-rockers are FINALLY FINALLY heading back to Australia for a pretty epic tour in early 2015. They haven’t been here for five years – not since their phenomenal set at the doomed Harvest Festival.
In a career spanning nearly two decades, Mogwai have produced some of the most interesting, beautiful, progressive, imaginative and, at times, strange music that exists out there today. Their influential albums have essentially helped shape an entire genre. It’s not often that an almost entirely instrumental band can hit the UK top ten, but this year’s Rave Tapes made that happen.
I saw them live in London few years ago and let me tell you what: it changed my freaking life. It blew my mind. It was so intense and fierce, so ethereal and beautiful, so ridiculously captivating.
This is them playing one of their best known tracks earlier this year in Glasgow:
And this is one of my general all-time favourites of theirs:
